Think about it

A website where people post their ideas to a public domain thereby taking away all future possibilities to hold a patent and more than likely make them a reality/ A website where those with resources can take great ideas from common folk and profit from them while the poor guy sulks about not seeing a dime/A website that destroys all value on intellectual property by removing all buffs.

It is not that bad (edit | delete)
You raised a good question - why anybody should use a website like this? First of all, you are exaggerating saying that it's "taking away all future possibilities to hold a patent and more than likely make them a reality". Nothing's preventing you from obtaining a patent later after you publish an idea here. Quite opposite - you can use this website as a proof of when the idea was first published and by whom. If you are ready to invest your time and money into the patenting process you can do it anytime but be prepared to pay $5000 to $15000 or even more depending on the complexity of your case plus research, plus possible extra expenses. Here are we are talking about domestic patents. It is much more for the international patents. Let's don't forget about patent maintenance fees and patent renewal fees. It is a known fact that about 97% of patents generate less revenue than the patent costs. However, if you are ready and when you are ready we can even help you with the patenting process. Meanwhile, everybody's welcome to use this website as a firing pad for your ideas. You can try presenting them differently, you can monitor the rating, you can see if it worth-while to make next step in the idea development. Moreover, you can split your idea into two parts and present the first one as a free content and the second one as a pay-per-view content and start generating revenue immediately. Additional information on it could be found in the "How It Works".

Dude, are you trying to ruin Christmas for MegaScopes?
Just kidding :-)

But seriously, not every idea is about patenting and money-making. Think Wikipedia and WikiLeaks.

Some ideas should be out-there just for the sake of attracting like-minded people around them. Who knows, maybe it can spark the creation of a community that would never exist otherwise.
