A tooth-embedded sensor could help people with low will-power break the habits of smoking, drinking or overeating.
The device will consist of a tiny circuit board that will be embedded inside a tooth, dentures or dental brace. The sensor will be able to recognize a variety of jaw motions, including those that indicate chewing, smoking or drinking. An accelerometer on the device will allow it to send the data to a smartphone.
The device will be powered by an external battery source. But it will be possible to incorporate a microbattery as well as a Bluetooth radio for wireless communication.
