A chip able to detect viruses or diseases from a single drop of blood could soon make easier, and quicker, for doctors to complete their diagnoses.
The individual devices will be spaced six microns apart - the same size as a single cell. Their structure will be based around carbon nanotubes, which are crucial in detecting the presence of the cells. Sensors within the device will measure the electrical properties of the blood cells, which will allow the team to detect variances and, eventually, detect sick cells based on these differences in charges.
