It turns out that one can get rid of excess weight not only with the help of exhausting workouts and strict diets. The experience of Sweden, which occupies a leading position on the number of people suffering from obesity, shows that it is possible to get rid of excess weight easily. Heart rate monitor watches are widely used. My idea is to improve such watches so as they are able to monitor the heart rate as well as calculate calories burnt. They can also have the capability to scan products' bar codes and provide the information about how many calories were consumed versus how many calories were burnt. I think such watches could help people who intend to lose weight.

My idea is to develop a device that will keep track of every bite you take, and sound an alarm when you are nearing the danger zone of overeating. The device will be worn on the wrist and will track the wrist roll motion people use when they pick up food and put it in their mouth. It will be possible to set the device for custom bite limits for each meal or for the entire day. Calories consumed will be calculated using a formula similar to those used in exercise equipment to...

The new device will be able to determine the amount of vegetables in a person's diet in about a minute, simply by shining a laser on the person's hand. The veggie-monitor will use Raman spectroscopy (RRS) to measure the increased level of carotenoids in the skin. Carontenoids, which are the biomakers for fruit and vegetable intake, tend to cause a slight yellow skin discoloration that is particularly noticeable in the palms. A blue argon laser tuned to interact with the carotenoids...

Researchers have discovered a new protein that regulates the development of brown fat, which could lead to new methods of controlling obesity. The protein, called BMP8B, controls brown fat by regulating its heat producing activity, which could make it ideal for creating new weight control therapies. In research, brown fat cells treated with BMP8B responded strongly to nervous system activation, and mice treated with BMP8B lost more weight than non-treated mice. This is due to the...

A new device will suck food directly out of the stomach through an implanted tube. The dieting system will feature a thin silicon tube that will run from the inside of the stomach to a poker-chip sized Skin-Port on the surface of the abdomen. Twenty minutes after the meal has been completed, the user will attach the held-held device to the tube and turn a lever, allowing the barely-digested food to exit the stomach and flow into the device's reservoir. The device will remove only a...
