The Rain house will be made of a special bio-concrete that will allow it to filter rain water. The concrete will be both PH neutral and bio-compatible with water, which will enable it produce sun-distilled water naturally. Rain water is believed to be the purest source of freshwater, and bio-concrete technology could democratize fresh water supplies by providing access to affordable clean water for small and big scale users, from families to big companies, leaving the...

The idea is to develop a self-healing concrete, which could cut building costs by reducing the amount of steel needed to add structural support. Under strain, concrete will develop cracks that will eventually spread and weaken the structure. Why not mix the spores of limestone-producing bacteria and some nutrients into the concrete material. The spores will remain dormant until they are activated by rainwater, at which time they will eat the nutrients and produce limestone, filling...

A wireless system for monitoring bridge integrity will transmit minute-by-minute updates and will cost as much as one-hundredth the amount of wired network. The sensors will be made up of four flexible layers and will be less that 5 millimeters thick. The different layers will measure parameters, store energy, transmit the data, and harvest energy from ambient light and radio waves. The sensors will be strong and self-adhesive and will require no wires or batteries since they will...

A new alloy is able to convert heat directly into electricity. The alloy, a multiferroic composite of nickel, cobalt, manganese and tin, can quickly and dramatically change from non-magnetic to extremely magnetic when heated only a small amount. When the alloy is located near a rare- earth magnet, a current is produced in a surrounding coil. The new allow could have applications in harvesting waste heat from car exhausts, particularly since many hybrid batteries already have...

I suggest using a new method of steel processing which results in an end product that is lighter, stronger, and more environmentally friendly than traditional methods. The process takes only ten seconds, rather than the hours or days of heating in conventional steel plants. The metal is flash heated and then quickly cooled, which alters the microstructure of the steel and results in a product that is 7% stronger and 30% more flexible than traditional steel. And since the...

Why not create piezoelectric artificial trees able to collect rainwater and generate electricity? The tree will be able to use water from rainfall as well as the natural water table as irrigation; wind energy will provide power for the LED lights.

Torque vectoring gears for wind turbines eliminate the need for the twofold conversion process required before the current is fed into the grid. The process of converting the current produced by the turbines into an alternating current of the right frequency results in a loss of almost five percent. To prevent this loss, I suggest developing an active torque-vectoring gear that can operate at exactly 1500 revolutions per minute regardless of the rotational speed of the motor. This...

Isn't it great to have a temporary refuge that allows visitors to enjoy the wilderness while preserving the pristine environment? The self-supporting solar powered cabin will designed to be transported by helicopter to the desired area and set up on pipe piers, with minimal impact to the site. The water will be delivered by snow melted by the solar system; appliances will be powered by the solar electric system. There will be a supply of bioethanol available for emergency needs,...

The idea with that artificial rainbow is fantastic. A rainbow machine has been already created. It uses reclaimed rainwater and sunlight to create rainbow effect. The machine applies jet pumps and custom fountain nozzles to spray water in the air, and then the sunlight shines through to create the rainbow effect.

My idea is to provide fire trucks with a system which is a combination of a conveyor belt and a ladder. It could help firemen move people more quickly from burning buildings. The system will contain rungs on rollers that will slide on tracks. Such a ladder will be able to lower four people to the ground in 4 minutes while the standard time for rescue, using traditional methods, is about 15 minutes.
