Using waves to find leaks
By sending pressure waves along suspect pipes, it is possible to develop a way to quickly and more accurately locate leaks, particularly in plastic piping.
The system can be attached to a standard water hydrant and will feature a valve that can be rapidly opened and closed to create a pressure wave that will travel down the pipe. When the wave encounters any unexpected defects in the pipe, such as a crack, it will bounce back a reflection that can be used to determine the location and size of the leak.
