The idea is to create a new LED bulb able to be controlled by any Android device. It will set the precedent for a new generation of energy efficient home systems. The bulb will include a built in radio to interface with Google's open source wireless protocol. Besides the bulbs, the protocol will also be used to control thermostats and appliances, leading to a new type of self-adjusting systems.

Why not provide football helmets with impact sensing accelerometers? This will help to analyze how blows to the head relate to brain injuries. Three types of accelerometers will be placed in the mouthpieces, earpieces, and helmets to see if real time neuroanalysis can occur during the games, allowing for the isolation and diagnosis of the concussions within minutes. By the way, long-term data could provide information on how players become injured and help engineers design a...

For many, the sound of the drill is a big cause of anxiety when it comes to visiting the dentist. I have an idea to create a device which will cancel out the noise of a dentist's drill helping people overcome their fear of a check-up. This new device will allow patients to listen to music on an MP3 player, while the sound of the drill will be blanked out. Patients will still be able to hear the dentist's voice because not all sounds are to be filtered out. The device will be...

The idea is to develop a pair of glasses able to decipher facial expressions and transmit the meaning to the wearer. This might help people suffering from Autism to better relate to others. The glasses will be made up of a tiny camera which will interface with a computer the size of a deck of playing cards. The camera will be able to track and transmit information about 24 points on the face, then send the information to the computer for comparison with a set of well-defined...

Why not develop wearable solar and thermoelectric power systems for soldiers to reduce the loads they typically carry? My idea is to use solar cells to generate power during the day, while at night thermoelectric devices would harness the difference in temperature between body heat and night air. The systems could be woven into the soldiers' uniforms, and the electricity stored an advanced form of storage device.

The same chemical used as a pigment in breakfast cereals could lead to the creation of LEDs that are grown or printed on the surface of paper. To create the printable diodes, it is necessary to first grew nanometer-sized zinc oxide crystals by coating paper in a polymer, seeding it with a solution containing zinc, and then coating it again with another polymer. The paper is then dipped in a mixture that encourages the zinc to grow into upright hollow rods, with yet another polymer...

Why not create software to scan videos of crime scenes and identify frequently reoccurring faces? This will help with the identification of individuals who may know something about the crime. The software will work from any video stream, including cell phone video. It could also be used to count the number of times an individual shows in a particular location, and mark that person as a possible person of interest if they appear more than a certain number of times.

The idea is to create a way to make foam from paper mill waste, simultaneously reducing waste and creating a useful product. Some of the finer waste fibers from paper making are excellent feed-stock for nano-crystalline cellulose (NCC). Why not develop a method of processing the NCC into composite foams by adding a furan resin to the unprocessed foam. Paper mills create millions of tons of waste product annually, much of which could be re-used in this new method of foam...
