Cyclists can reduce their fear of flats with a new pump system that uses the compression of the tire upon the ground to pump air into the tube until the optimal pressure is reached. The pump system includes the tire, inner tube, and air valve. A one way valve draws in the air, which goes to the lumen, a small tube in the center of the tire. The lumen is compressed as the tire rolls along the ground, which forces air out of one end and into a second valve on the inner tube,...

The new device will detect when you're feeling overworked and modify the work load to remove some of the stress. The device will consist of a functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) sensor worn strapped to the forehead and able to analyze brain patterns to determine when a person is multitasking. The system could eventually be used to warn people when they appear distracted or aid workers who typically handle several tasks at once.

The idea is to develop a new way to enable computers to recognize three-dimensional objects by using heat diffusion. The two methods, heat mapping and heat diffusion, will scan the surface of an object and then use algorithms to estimate the diffusion of heat across the object. Heat diffusion patterns are predictable, so the shape of the object could be determined regardless of orientation. The heat mapping method will use a simulated mesh of triangles to determine the heat flow...

The bicycle GPS tracker will sound an alert if the bike is stolen, and then help you track it down and recover it. The bike GPS will mount inconspicuously inside the headset of the bike and will be secured by a special wrench. When the bike is parked, the user will active the GPS unit with an electronic key, which will turn on the vibration sensor. If the unit senses vibrations when it has not been turned off, such as in the case of being stolen, it will sent an alert through SMS...

Mouth guards wired with sensors could replace helmet sensors as the way to measure the impact forces of sports like football and hockey. The mouth guard sensor will use six sensors imbedded within the guard to monitor the different forces on the head. The readings will be sent wirelessly to a sidelines computer that then will use an algorithm to estimate how the brain is affected.

Why not develop a radar system able to detect objects that have fallen onto the tracks, automatically cutting power and notifying oncoming trains? The system will work by sending out a continuous spread of wideband radio waves and using an Automatic Target Recognition procedure to analyze the reflections of the waves when they will encounter a foreign object. The system is supposed to recognize a variety of objects, including suitcases, adults, and children.

The idea is to create a life vest which will be an inflatable flotation device incorporated into a stylish garment. Currently life vest products are very bulky and uncomfortable. This new life vest will be very comfortable to wear and very stylish. A surfer or diver will be able to simply pull the trigger and the inflated bladder will float them to the surface. Currently there are no such devices in the market that can save the life of a drowning surfer or a scuba diver.
