The idea is to create a solar backpack which will store energy for later use. The backpack will be able to store 30 minutes of power with an hour of sun exposure, and the onboard battery will be plugged into a standard outlet and recharged The backpack will also have two ports, one supplying 16v or 19v while the other will run 5v to 12v, suitable for smaller devices.

The idea is to create a USB charging device that will flip open to draw power from electrical outlets already fully occupied. The device will open to extend a flat conductive "power tab", which will work via its two holes. The prongs of one of the plugs that will be occupying the outlet will be run through the holes and then plugged back into the outlet. The power tab will draw enough energy to charge a mobile device, sending 1 amp through the USB cable. A flat "power tab"...

The paper thin, mercury free OLED lights will be the most energy efficient kitchen lights. It is difficult to perfect white lights that are powerful enough to be suitable for kitchen use, but the OLED lights are supposed to be as bright as the typical compact fluorescent. They will also be incredibly thin and have a life span of more than 12,000 hours. The system efficiency of 71 lumens per watt will be greater than the standard requirement for undercabinet lighting, and the lights...

The idea is to create vibrating belts which will make it possible for soldiers to follow directions and find their way through the darkness. The belt will contain eight mini actuators that will represent the eight cardinal directions. A GPS system, compass, and accelerometer will be able to track the direction a soldier moves, and provide a gentle, vibratory nudge to help keep him on the correct path.

In an effort to slow coastal erosion, why not develop concrete cylinders that can cancel out up to 90% of a wave's intensity? The cylinders will be hollow with narrow slits in the sides and will cancel out the wave's energy. The cylinders should even be able to handle tsunami waves, and it will be possible that current wave power generation systems could be adapted to the coastal protector technology.

The handheld printer will use a combination of inkjets, optics, and software to print images onto any flat surface. The printer will use laser sensors to track the device's movement, measuring its location and speed. The software will interpret the sensors' data and use algorithms to determine which spurt of ink to send next as the user waves the printer over the material. This will allow the printer to print on any size material, even material larger than the printer itself.

The idea is to develop a new technology that will allow cars to harness their waste heat for better fuel efficiency. It is necessary to create new thermoelectric generators, which will consist of semiconductor materials treated with hafnium and zirconium. The generators will be less expensive than conventional devices as well as 40 percent more efficient.

A newly developed technology allows users to charge their cell phones by yelling at them! The technology works by transforming sound waves into power in a similar way that speakers transform electric signals into sound. Currently, the device consists of a sound absorbing pad that creates vibrations when hit by sound waves. The pad is connected to zinc oxide wires that compress and release, which creates a current and generates the battery.
