I want to offer a more efficient way to diagnose pneumonia by preventing the sample from being contaminated by oral bacteria. My idea is to create a device which will use air currents to separate particles from the lungs from particles originating in the mouth, ensuring that pulmonary phlegm hits the filter while the rest of the particles are routed to the lower balloon. Such a diagnostic tool could improve identification of pneumonia in children in developing nations and reduce...

My idea is to create a small multifunctional monitoring device. The battery operated and reconfigurable device will have four slots for biosensors such as a pulse oximeter or an electrocardiograph. The device will also incorporate a camera and a microphone, and will be able to transmit data wirelessly over the internet. Since it will be self contained, all the data and signal processing will be done on the device itself, rather than conventional wireless medical devices that only...

The idea is to create a glucose sensor for diabetes sufferers which will use tear fluid instead of blood. This may soon eliminate the need for finger pricks. The device will be able to take a sample of tear fluid by a painless dab at the corner of the eye. The device's sensor will measure the amount of glucose in the tear sample which is supposed to be very similar to the amount of glucose in blood. The idea is to develop a new portable device to help delay the onset of hypothermia due to blood loss. The device could be of particular use to soldiers in the field. The device will use a portable humidifier to pump moist warm air into the patient's lungs through an oxygen mask. The warm air will be transferred to the body through the blood, which will pick up the heat while circulating through lungs.

Why not develop a non-steroidal contraceptive method for men that may be simple as swallowing a pill? It has been discovered that low doses of the same compound that inhibits retinoic acid receptors (RARs) also stops sperm production without any apparent side effects. Once the user stops taking the pill, fertility is restored to normal levels almost immediately.

The idea is to develop a 'camera pill' which will deliver HD videos of the digestive tract in real time. The endoscopic camera will include an HD video camera, light source, radio transmitter, battery, and microprocessor to record and transmit images of the patient's digestive tract. It will also transmit its location within the person's body through the same ultra-wideband waves it will use to transmit the image data.

Why not take into account bone conduction phenomenon and create a telephone for hearing impaired people? The handset in such a case will have a pulsator which, when placed on specific areas of the head, will send vibrations directly to the speech center of the brain. The phone will also include a light to indicate an incoming call and different volume controls.

I've just stumbled across this article about magnetic pills. Scientists can hold such pills in a specific place in the body, pinpointing the most effective location for the body's absorption of the drug. Some drugs can only be absorbed in specific parts of the intestine, and traditional oral pills don't usually stay in that one spot long enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream. The new drug delivery system uses an external magnet system with computer control and feedback...

This fertility monitoring system is such a great invention. It gives couples an easy way to know when peak fertility occurs, making it easier to plan for pregnancy. A sensor in the woman's arm monitors body temperature to within a thousandth of a degree, and gives a 99 percent ovulation time accuracy; this data is transmitted to a digital reader. Just imagine, with such a system it is possible to plan a romantic evening up to six days in advance.
