If you get lots of business mail, you will notice that people make up all kinds of 3 letter abbreviations ("describing" their position) just to impress you. Long forgotten are the times when you just got mail from BMW's CEO or directly from the FBI. Today's decision makers are CPCs, DEOs, SPMs, or better! (Wow...) So I would love to have a SEA (Stupid Email Abbreviations) Randomizer. If you think about it, with three letters at your disposal, there are up to 26^3 leading positions in...

This idea would require a simple computer program that displayed a screen asking 3 questions - 1. What equation/formula are you interested in? 2. What constant do you want replaced? 3. How many degrees of separation do you want? After you answer the questions the program would search a database that had been pre-loaded with as many standard equations / formulae as possible (engineering books are full of them) looking for ones that said the chosen constant equaled something...

Recent research has shown that a simulated out-of-body experience is easily induced by presenting a binocular view of another's surroundings to an observer (see reference 1 below). By presenting slightly different angles to the left and the right eye, a stereoscopic effect can be induced. Second life is a growing online community that would potentially be interested in immersive virtual reality, and there could be money to be made by enhancing their online experience. Using an infrared...

I've done it before, and I imagine you might have too. You plug in your USB drive into the USB port and open up your work, spend ages working on it, save. Log out. Walk away. ...which is fine, if you're at home. But I'm a school student, and a number of times I have left my thumb drive in a school computer, or seen it happen to other people. Sometimes, you get it back. Other students are not so honest. The problem is, if you lose the USB drive, you use the work on it as well,...

Create an online country. New citizens will be allocated a place in society at random. Their status will change through interactions (or lack of them)with other citizens. Once a substantial population is in place political parties will form and there will be referendums and elections, creating a true online democracy.

This product is a type of software built into your average keyboard. Basically, whenever a musician comes up with a tune/song in their heads, instead of writing it down manually, they can select a tempo on their keyboard (indicated by the screen, and by the sound of a chosen type of percussion), select record, and then after a 10 second count, the musician will begin playing their piece. Once finished, the musician presses stop. Then a floppy disk may be removed from the keyboard and...

Why can't the FM stations offer free internet and make money out of ads thru them? And we should be able to convert the FM signals into data. (Anyway this may be a single way connection...for uploading we have to use our phone connections.)

How about an internet site where people could submit an electronic photo of themselves. (Perhaps two photos; one frontal facial, and one side facial.) A computer would then analyze the photos and create groups of photos in which the members of the group look very much alike. You could then log into the site and find someone who looks just like you. Who knows? You might discover that you are a twin and have never been told! Then once a year, a look-alike get-together would be...

How about setting up a website where authors that normally would never be published could publish excerpts of their work? Then, if people like it, they may pay for a downloadable version of the whole thing. Authors could set the price per copy as whatever they feel their work is worth - maybe there could be some sort of bidding system? The site could take a small percentage of sales. And on the same site, perhaps if some agents or publishers would periodically list their submission...

When I write my email, I'm sometimes REALLY absent-minded. One of the worst mistakes I sometimes make is sending mails to the wrong people. This problem could be solved by an intelligent email client that does some basic checking and then outputs an appropriate error message (e.g. "Are you sure you want to be so rude to your GRANDMOTHER?" - "Do you really want to send this business letter to yourself?" etc. etc.) With 20-30% of the internet population ignoring unpleasant emails, I...
