Why not use magma as a potential source of geothermal energy? It is actually able to power up to 30,000 homes. FYI, magma can produce dry steam at 750 degrees Fahrenheit, which can generate up to 25 megawatts of electricity. The usual geothermal well can produce 5 to 8 megawatts of electricity.

My idea is to create a small multifunctional monitoring device. The battery operated and reconfigurable device will have four slots for biosensors such as a pulse oximeter or an electrocardiograph. The device will also incorporate a camera and a microphone, and will be able to transmit data wirelessly over the internet. Since it will be self contained, all the data and signal processing will be done on the device itself, rather than conventional wireless medical devices that only...

New lamps will be powered by both solar and wind power, providing up to 12 hours of light when fully charged. The lamps will feature recyclable polypropylene shades that will catch the wind, rotating to create interesting lighting effects. The lamps will be available as either pendants or stakes, and can recharge in 9-12 hours on a sunny day or 24 hours in a 4 m/s wind. They will be both approved for use as outdoor lighting.

A new wristband will be able to diagnose and even predict potentially dangerous seizures. The wristbands will measure conductance, or how easily electrical current will pass through the skin. The skin conductance rises dramatically before and during a seizure, and the higher the conductance, the longer it takes for the brain to return to normal. The wristbands will be used to monitor people with seizure conditions, noting their intensity and possibly calling for help if the...

The new bandage will warn users if it detects an infection in the wound. The bandage features a dressing cover that is sensitive to any pH changes in the wound that would signify an infection. If it does detect an infection--indicated by a pH level between 6.5 and 8.5--a cross-shaped indicator on the top of the bandage will turn purple. The bandages are made of a material with a leather-like feel, come in a variety of colors, and are packaged with Braille instructions.

Thanks to a sunscreen we can be in the open sun for a long time and do not get sunburnt. However, even the cream is not a panacea - it can come off, chemically modify and lose the effect. We also often remember to use the sunscreen again when it becomes too late. At the beginning of a hot beach season a special bracelet appears on the market. It allows to monitor the UV quantity obtained and to take actions in time. Doctors and beauticians do not recommend tanning at all as...

The sleep duration depends on the age: the younger the organism, the more time a person should sleep. People carrying out work related to the strong tension of the nervous system need to sleep longer. The long sleep is required for patients. To establish a good, quiet sleep, one should follow these rules: * Bedroom should be well aired, the temperature should provide a comfortable sleep, i.e. the room should be cool, and the bed should be warm; * Try to go to bed and get up...

I travel a lot and often use my digital camera to take pictures of landmarks and the landscape. All the pictures are time stamped to tell me when they are taken but there is no information on where they are taken. I think that building GPS system into cameras could be cool. This will help to store the location, direction and possibly the pitch and also will add more life to the pictures. By the way, it may be possible to create a 3D map using this technique in future.

Buying clothes in the internet is a great idea but there is the disadvantage of not being able to try the stuff on. I suggest creating online shop where you could put your measurements and a computer program would generate a virtual model of your body. You could also create your own virtual wardrobe there, fill it in with items from different on-line shops and try them on for size, style, color to make sure that the clothes would be exactly what you wanted.

Why not advertise on the back of clothes homeless people wear? They have a great exposure, as they wander here and there all the day. Advantages of the idea: * The homeless get free clothing and a stipend; * Advertisers get exposure; * Advertisers get a charitable tax receipt.
